API Interceptor: Chrome Extension for Intercepting and Modifying Network Requests

API Interceptor is a Chrome extension developed by Anshul Nema that serves as a valuable tool for developers and testers. This extension allows users to intercept and analyze network requests made by web pages, making it an essential tool for debugging and testing web applications.

With API Interceptor, users can modify network requests in real-time, giving them the ability to analyze and manipulate responses. The extension provides features such as response and schema analysis and modification using JSON Editor. Users can also mock responses using JSON Schema Faker or supply their own custom API response. Additionally, API Interceptor allows for response status modification.

Whether you're a web developer, quality assurance engineer, or simply curious about how your favorite websites work behind the scenes, API Interceptor can be your go-to tool. It offers the ability to view raw server responses, customize responses and schemas, and even generate fake responses using customized schemas.

API Interceptor currently requires two permissions: "storage" and "debugger." The "debugger" permission is necessary for response modification, while the "storage" permission is needed to store the maintaining clientId.

It's worth noting that when clicking on the API Interceptor icon, you may see a message stating ["api-interceptor" started debugging this browser]. This message is displayed because the extension uses the debugger API, which is required for response modification. Chrome's security policy may cause the banner to appear on all tabs, even when a tab is not being modified. To hide the message, you can run Chrome with the --silent-debugger-extension-api command line switch. Additionally, clicking the "Cancel" button on the message will stop intercepting requests on the page, and to reactivate it, simply click the "Play" button in the extension popup.

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
